Sorry, I'm currently using a 6MP Dahua camera at the moment. An 8MP should definitely give you better resolution. You can give it a quick search online,you maybe find heaps of examples...
Dahua's pretty solid for what you're describing. Been using a WizSense setup at my place for over a year now. The human/vehicle detection is genuinely good, barely any false alerts from cats or passing headlights.
For late-night theft concerns, I'd lean toward the TiOC series if budget allows...
