    Camera Recommendations

@mat200, stupid question, but I just saw your notification and checked it. Note the date. My laptop is showing the correct April 2nd. Are your current notifications showing as being received "tomorrow"?

    Camera Recommendations

I've done a couple of swaps that went well but then one with a noname camera (Besder maybe?) that had the body screw apart (think two pieces of pipe) and the wires got twisted and chewed upon reassembly. It's probably easy if you had the knack with the wires but that doesn't apparently come the...

    Camera Recommendations

Thanks @mat200, I assumed they'd have email notifications turned on but a message @ them never hurts as well. I'm lamenting the loss of older models as I search through posts and online stores so thx for the heads-up. I'm also lamenting the old prices. Holy smokes have things gone up since I...

OP, I'm reading some old threads and wondered what you ended up going with? Happy with everything?

Inexpensive long fixed lens camera sources?

Thanks. They must've updated the firmware? Seems to me that originally the Dahua varifocal cams couldn't do that. At least there's a medium-priced model that works. Seems a shame that the older cheap ones aren't available. I've got two unmodified 16mm Dahuas that were about $80 each still doing...

Inexpensive long fixed lens camera sources?

You used to be able to find lots of people on AliExpress and other places selling cheap-ish full-sized bullets with 16 and 25mm lenses preinstalled. These seem to have dried up since COVID and are still hard to find. It's strange to me to see large bullets with 3.6 and maybe 6mm lenses but...

    IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E License Plate Not Clear?

I think bigredfish is talking sense. I looked at the pics and my first thought was not enough IR. You've got them set to manual/100% so they should be at max. Maybe even set IR to auto and try it or go to auto, save, then back to manual and see if that fixes it. Actually putting eyeballs on the...

    BIG Owl on my Trail

Looks like a mouse/mole/vole/similar to me. Can't offer help on owl species besides Googling. Nice capture though.

    BIG Owl on my Trail

Sometimes gluing some foam or synthetic hair over the mic can really improve wind noise. Not sure about clipping but it MIGHT help by reducing the loud peaks of the yipping although likely at the cost of losing quieter sounds. Another solution would be to install something else at the location...

    New Security

Maybe paint the inside of the fence black to help correct the exposure at night...

    BIG Owl on my Trail

Yeah, looks like you're locked at 1/250 all the time there. Day/night profiles should be a bit more intuitive and, frankly, are sometimes just plain broken. Here's how I set a minimum exposure in my Dahua 5442 that lets it adjust day or night as fast as it wants if it has enough light but to a...

    BIG Owl on my Trail

Just read much of the thread and a bunch of the videos. Great entertainment! I like my crittercams and birdcams more than the ones catching people doing crap they shouldn't. I noticed you adjusted the illuminators at one point. What did you settle at for the exposure? The one of you walking was...

If I could issue Lightning bolts

I was thinking at least the video wasn't zoomed in but then.... eye bleach needed.
