For those of you running a 54IR at night and getting full color with a motion floodlight, how many lumens do you need? Also, what are good settings to get full color? Thanks!
Some have got by with a few watts of light because they get reflection off the garage or a wall. Others have blasted stadium quality and still can't run color because of the distance they are going for and/or it is out in the wide open with nothing to reflect light around.
What is end goal - you can run the camera on default settings and get by in color with very little extra white light, but motion will be a blur.
But if you want ID quality, the same metrics still apply - min 1/60 shutter but ideally 1/120 or better.
Thanks @wittaj, I would like to be able to be able to see someone walking up to 20' from the camera and flood light. Once I get a flood light set up, I'll do some testing. I'm asking about lumens because I want something just bright enough and not super bright considering neighbors.
Min 2000-2500 if you hold your tongue right on Tuesdays and Thursdays
But really I've found you need 3500-4000, preferably above the camera, doesn't have to be exact but you risk a backlight situation if too far off the axis of the camera
If it is motion, screw the neighbors LOL. If a perp got in their car, you will be the first they come to for video LOL.
20 feet out would need a decent amount of lumen - probably well over 2000 lumens. I like the nightchaser floods as they give a narrower 40 degree light so it is more concentrated into the field of view, and I have the lumens go up as we get later in the night.
