H264/265 Fee Hike, any signs of VP9/AV1 to newer hardware

left field I found an article saying the 264 and 265 license fees are exploding, any sign on the horizon of manufacturers considering VP9 or AV1.. be nice to see a price drop with licensing costs removed.

    UNIFI—The Best Option...?

that and most of the other options are becoming closed in and exploding costs/limitations. guess we'll see how flexible unifi are willing to become. there is other competition even just from how good NVR's are getting for those that don't need that many complex features.

bidens incredible transition to electric cars

yeah it's a shame the lack of doing something when we knew we needed to do something is now going to cost a lot more, funny how that goes

    UNIFI—The Best Option...?

mmm the AI DSLR cam looks interesting, wonder what the price looks like 4/3" 10MP CMOS

HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

and why is that.. are they actually doing that in the Cam or in the software and it's a hardware lockin?

I have a ipc-hdw5831r-ze that seems to have lost its focus.

weirdly we've had a few of the latest fixed(2.8mm/3.6mm) focal cam's slowly go out of focus, Andy's recommendation of doing a physical reset button press seems to clear it up

    IPC-Color4M-TL

Fair warning, some of the Dahua Camera's are quite blurry close range, so pay careful attention to the min focus distance 2549: 2.8 mm: 1.7 m (5.58 ft) 3.6 mm: 2.6 m (8.53 ft) 3449: Close Focus Distance 2.8 mm: 2.0 m (6.56 ft) 3.6 mm: 3.5 m (11.48 ft)

Checking in - Hope All Are Doing Well !

Love your work :) would be interested to see a comparison between a ColorX and Axis same MP to get a quantification of what they consider value at some point (no rush)

Fiber instead of PoE, what about power?

it sounds like you are picking what you are sacrificing, keep in mind depending on what hits you, you're going to blow up stuff anyway. if fiber's a feasible option you could run a PoE injector that's cheap and easy to replace to supply power and assume whatever's supplying the PoE injector will...

    Road Rage Dumba$$

we're getting more and more of this over in AU, there is a massive shortage of anyone wanting to become police so it seems the only solution is to start putting up more camera's (Chinaaaaa)

Comparing real pro cameras to home grade. More than resolution specs.

Thanks, however if there is a counter I'd like to know where it is and make it visible so we can all keep an eye on it.. I'd also like to know Dahua's position on motors wearing out + if it's an issue etc (their all round spiel on it really)

Comparing real pro cameras to home grade. More than resolution specs.

I've decided to ask Andy for a comment on this.

Comparing real pro cameras to home grade. More than resolution specs.

the other thing to consider when embarking on this is if you get involved, will you be taking any responsibility for if the system does not perform, you can work on this and it can take a massive amount of time + then become on your head to maintain.

layout design. POE switches and backbones

oh no you can absolutely can daisy chain as long as it's within that reach, I'd not want to deal with a device at the start taking everything else down (personally)

layout design. POE switches and backbones

when potentially breaching the 100m limit/between physcial buildings my tact has always been to run pre-term fiber, which adds a level of lightning protection + helps in the case of dissimilar earths etc Option B is to just run cheap Ubiquity access points something like $400 for a pair.. prob...

    Worlds First Review - Dahua - IPC-Color4K-X / DH-IPC-HFW5849T1-ASE-LED - Full Color 4K Camera

ok Nailed it... almost all Dahua cam's come with a default sharpness command in ONVIF of 50 (or that's how it looks in milestone), so if whatever is connecting to the onvif is commanding 50 from the camera you get massively over sharpened, so I set this down to zero and it's now perfect.

    Worlds First Review - Dahua - IPC-Color4K-X / DH-IPC-HFW5849T1-ASE-LED - Full Color 4K Camera

ok, what I can see in Milestone with the S2 is very different (with the over sharpening issue) vs the camera's web interface, do you get the same, logged into the camera's interface it looks fine

    Worlds First Review - Dahua - IPC-Color4K-X / DH-IPC-HFW5849T1-ASE-LED - Full Color 4K Camera

actually, we've started to notice the same thing with the S2 version, anyone else had a look... might be worth Wildcat having a squiz.

    Motion Detection/SMD Questions/Issues

the SMD camera's I have let you do some of the SMD functionality within the IVS rules (create the IVS rule and area's then tick the boxes to say only on vehicle or humans), I still find they are not that accurate nor that flexible for what I'd like to do

    Motion Detection/SMD Questions/Issues

somewhat of a side note, if you want a higher reliability outside of making sure you are correctly locating the right devices, I'd highly recommend using external AI Processing the built in stuff is not particularly accurate at the best of times and BI is a ridiculously cheap way to do that

If you had unlimited budget for Axis cameras...

https://www.axis.com/products/axis-q1809-le 8k would be interesting to see some caps vs 4k and night :p, I keep wondering how long before Dahua/Hik start doing 8k at a vaguely economic price

[SOLVED] Add an C1200 ANNKE camera to a Dahua NVR

Sorry, I see the spec sheet says it has it, but maybe there is something in the cam that needs more config, Annke might also have suggestions for how to connect to external NVR etc

[SOLVED] Add an C1200 ANNKE camera to a Dahua NVR

You'd be best reaching out to Annke and seeing if there is a way to enable ONVIF on the camera itself, or if there is some stream detail etc and post back

    OMG Thermal!

It makes you wonder why they don't have these, with matching zoom lens on the PTZ to aid target tracking.. have two other cam's zoomed slighly further out from the PTZ's main lens and these can advise where it needs to move to keep the target centered.. .follow behind trees etc even better...

Cat6, Fiber optics, or wireless bridge to shed

one of the guys near you would need to advise sorry to say (I'm over in Aus) doing some googling I can't find anywhere selling custom lengths of loose tube, so i guess you'd be best doing the outdoor jacket with this mob: they look like they make to size Build & Buy Custom Fiber Cables Online...

Cat6, Fiber optics, or wireless bridge to shed

I'd go the preterm loose tube fibre optic myself, should not be expensive and will be rock solid + last forever, just get a pair of switches that have the SFP ports and you are golden.
