    Replacing a Dahua 5231R-Z — G6 Turret vs T54IR-ZE-S3 vs T58IR-ZE-S3 (front of house + street)

Got it, okay thank you. It's probably time to replace at least one of these older ones anyway...

    Replacing a Dahua 5231R-Z — G6 Turret vs T54IR-ZE-S3 vs T58IR-ZE-S3 (front of house + street)

Lol, I was afraid you were going to say that! I guess for my situation, do you have any sense whether or not my older Dahua HDW5231's would be able to switch reliably on their own? Do they even have the ability to do that at all... I can't remember if I've seen it in the web interface or not.

    Replacing a Dahua 5231R-Z — G6 Turret vs T54IR-ZE-S3 vs T58IR-ZE-S3 (front of house + street)

Awesome, thank you for giving a great starting-point. What are you using to have the cameras to switch between day and night settings? On-camera or something within the NVR app or some 3rd party utility?

    Replacing a Dahua 5231R-Z — G6 Turret vs T54IR-ZE-S3 vs T58IR-ZE-S3 (front of house + street)

Agreed, and although I sort of tuned things when I first put up the system I definitely didn't get it working as well as it could have been and in fact part of the reason I'm now revisiting it all is because I had someone steal a power washer from the alley behind my house. Have wonderful...

    Replacing a Dahua 5231R-Z — G6 Turret vs T54IR-ZE-S3 vs T58IR-ZE-S3 (front of house + street)

I've got mostly older Dahua's (Dahua IPC-HDW5231R-Z) and haven't updated firmware within the last many years so I'm assuming that I've got 'old' GUI? But how does scheduling work - are people explicitly setting times for it to switch on/off? What happens when the daylight hours shift? And what...

    Replacing a Dahua 5231R-Z — G6 Turret vs T54IR-ZE-S3 vs T58IR-ZE-S3 (front of house + street)

Do 'Day' and 'Night' settings happen automatically based on what the camera is seeing? Or do I need to set up a schedule?

    Replacing a Dahua 5231R-Z — G6 Turret vs T54IR-ZE-S3 vs T58IR-ZE-S3 (front of house + street)

Yeah, I'm probably hoping for too much thinking I might get some LP reading with the same camera. Don't really want two cameras since it's the front of my house and even the one camera feels a little intrusive to me. (Particularly since I'd also have to put a POE splitter on the wall there too...

    Replacing a Dahua 5231R-Z — G6 Turret vs T54IR-ZE-S3 vs T58IR-ZE-S3 (front of house + street)

(Cross-posting to Dahua and UniFi Protect forums) Looking for opinions on replacing my aging Dahua IPC-HDW5231R-Z. It's mounted on the front of my house covering my front steps, with the street also in view. I'd love to be able to catch license plates on cars passing by when possible. Night...

quick way to see something from two minutes ago via iOS app

Yeah that's often what I do, particularly if I know where the sound came from. Still, an easy way to instantly scroll back to some arbitrary recent point in time for all the cameras I'm looking at would be extra slick...

Yeah but do you have alerts going off all night or do you silence them?

quick way to see something from two minutes ago via iOS app

Cool, thanks for letting me know that at least something is in the works! It's just very common, at least around my house, to have someone (cough*wife*cough) say "what was that noise". So being able to quickly see what happened 30 seconds ago is something I think I'd use constantly.

quick way to see something from two minutes ago via iOS app

I'm not asking for mind-reading, just good app design. On my Wyze camera I touch 'view playback' and press the 'go back 30 seconds' button a few times as needed. That takes 'less than 3 seconds' rather than 'less than a minute'. And on BI if there hasn't been an alert recently, like beyond the...

quick way to see something from two minutes ago via iOS app

Curious what people do if they want to quickly see something (on the app) from a specific camera that happened just a few minutes ago (assuming there are no alerts/events detected). Am I missing something obvious or do you really need to go into the clips section and then scroll to find?

Thank you! All working as normal again!!!

Handhold me through data disk clone (what software, in particular?)

Cool, thanks. Is that MiniTool partition wizard a necessary part of the process? And is there a way to just specify that it's got the same drive name so I don't have to touch BI at all?

Handhold me through data disk clone (what software, in particular?)

I'm a Mac guy but did manage to learn what I needed to set up BI on a Dell (win10) PC about 6 or 7 years ago. I then promptly forgot everything Windows-related since BI has been running smoothly since then. But, since I just had to pull the machine apart to put in a new power supply (the fan...

Latest thinking on favorite low-cost POE (indoor)

Nice - the little cube looks like a great drop-in replacement. PTZ might be handy at times but that Amcrest isn't POE is it?

Latest thinking on favorite low-cost POE (indoor)

Several years ago I bought one of the little Annke POE cameras for the basement but it's starting to behave erratically so I think it's about time to replace. What's the latest thinking on a decent but lower-cost POE camera that might replace it? Low light is not particularly important but I do...

IPC-HDBW4231F-E2-M 'Boobie' Cam for License Plate reading?

Thanks @chaosengine - SUPER useful! Looks like I can get longer lenses with some of these so that's great. And I'm in LA so what is this rain stuff of which you speak? :)

IPC-HDBW4231F-E2-M 'Boobie' Cam for License Plate reading?

Hmm, yeah the photo I posted is a little deceiving... that mounting point is actually an overhang (above the garage) that's about 7 feet high. Sounds like even w/ the 3.6mm lens (thanks @concord for the direct link) I may be a little too far out. Is there a rule-of-thumb lens/FOV/distance...

IPC-HDBW4231F-E2-M 'Boobie' Cam for License Plate reading?

Anybody have thoughts on using the dahua dual-camera (boobie) cam for LPR purposes? I'm trying to capture plates coming up and down the alley behind my house (see attached image) and ideally wouldn't have to mount TWO cameras there. I know it's available with a 3.6mm lens instead of the default...

USB webcam - 'no signal' for long time after restarting/etc

So, for what it's worth, it was an audio issue. For my use I just turned off audio for the camera but presumably if I'd taken the time to track down whatever drivers were needed it would have solved it as well. I guess BI keeps trying for like 10 minutes to figure out if there's audio available...

USB webcam - 'no signal' for long time after restarting/etc

I figured I'd go ahead and hang a cheap USB webcam (Logitech, 1080p, about 1 year old) off my BI PC so I can watch the room where it's located. But I'm getting a strange behavior with it where any time I restart BI this camera's feed it shows the dreaded 'No Signal' gray screen. Eventually -...

    cheap USB camera?

Yes, I was just wanting to do USB attached to the BI PC. I don't need amazing low-light abilities since I've got an IR illuminator I can flood the room with. But yes, I agree that its hard to find USB in that pricerange that's decent - which is why I'm asking I suppose. Just seems strange...

    cheap USB camera?

Anybody have a nice-but-cheap USB camera they can recommend? Figured I may as well hang a camera off the PC that's running BI, so as to keep an eye on the office where it's located. Currently have a webcam there but it has zero low-light or IR ability so I'm hoping to find something that's...

usb 'no signal' but works fine w/ Win10 Camera app

Sheesh. And then I walk away from it all and check my BI feed 45 minutes later and the camera's now showing properly. So... nevermind I guess. (though I still find it strange that Windows saw it immediately - piques my curiosity about what the difference is...)

usb 'no signal' but works fine w/ Win10 Camera app

I have a little USB camera that seems to stream images just fine when I bring up Windows 10's 'Camera' app but Blue Iris just gives me the gray 'No Signal' Error 80004005 () 1006 image. Have tried deleting and re-adding the camera a few times, tweaked settings within the 'video' section of the...

    Anybody using RadioRA2 + BI?

Anybody out there using both BI and a Lutron RadioRA2 lighting system in their house? In particular, I'm trying to figure out if there are any resources for how to trigger certain lighting events based on detected motion in specific cameras. Seems like it should be do-able but I'm hoping to get...

Best indoor camera for use with Blue Iris

yeah the eye has a definite tendency to think that contrast = sharpness. Should note that a truly fair test of image quality would be to make sure there's not some additional image processing (it looks like sharpening to me) being applied to the Annke that could maybe be turned off or modified...

Best indoor camera for use with Blue Iris

The Annke is definitely more contrasty (and maybe more saturated) but that's not necessarily meaning you're getting a better picture (more information on the scene). You can see that the darks go to black in the Annke vs still having some color detail in the Dahua, for example. Ultimately...
