I have a 40yd container full of tools that random people access, and want to put a color night cam 8-10ft back inside the entrance looking out the doors, with the camera providing light. I have read a lot of argument against those color cams like Color4MT, have there been any improvements, or is the B54IR still just the only way to go for quality, and I will have to provide my own light source to get color @night? (assuming Empire models)

If you want ID quality the person would have to be in the ideal distance of 15ish feet. If so, then the 4K-T or 4MT would be fine and the inside of the container would provide some light bounce to help.

4MT, or would 4MTL be ok in this closeup situation? Would not really be worried about person/vehicle detection, it should trigger motion recording as soon as the door opens.

I almost started a thread about color vs black and white....I'm gonna search some stuff before I do that. And I'm just going off of experience of night identification, which is the most important. IMHO

Old fashioned Motion Detection is going on 20 years old and will activate on shadows, leaves and all kind of things you don’t want.
AI powered IVS is much better.

4M-T can run IR until detection and then kick on the white light LEDs, or run the white LEDs full time.

The 4M-TL is white light only 24/7 it does not have and can’t see IR

Close focus distance ( somewhat soft or minor blurry) inside of about 6-8ft on both
