Camera Recommendations

Thanks @mat200, I assumed they'd have email notifications turned on but a message @ them never hurts as well.

I'm lamenting the loss of older models as I search through posts and online stores so thx for the heads-up. I'm also lamenting the old prices. Holy smokes have things gone up since I built my systems. I'm also missing things that aren't available anymore, like fixed focus long lensed models. I just noticed one 16mm cam has dropped out at work. Even if Dahua/Hik/etc decided for some reason they didn't want to offer them anymore you'd think that some smaller company would add 16mm/25mm/whatever lenses to some cameras and resell them. I've done a few swaps myself with mixed to poor results due to stuff glued together, wires getting twisted off on reassembly, etc.

yup .. prices getting crazy ..

DIY mods is fun .. until you mess up, lol

In general swapping out fixed lenses should not be too hard

( I am not happy how hard it is to upgrade SSD and RAM on newer laptops .. man what a pita compared to the older ones I have )

I've done a couple of swaps that went well but then one with a noname camera (Besder maybe?) that had the body screw apart (think two pieces of pipe) and the wires got twisted and chewed upon reassembly. It's probably easy if you had the knack with the wires but that doesn't apparently come the first time. Can't remember what happened to the other one but I think it was one of the original Hik 2mp bullets. Worked fine before reassembly then dead after. It might've been fried with static or something stupid but I ran out of patience. This was back in the day of, hmm, I forget his name but he posted on here a lot and had his own sales company for cams and lenses and such. Westwood Surveillance maybe? He passed away though.

And don't get me started on laptop memory. I got a new one last year but can't quite bring myself to mortgage the house to bump it from 16 to 32 gigs. If it were a necessity then yes, but it's a "nice to have" not a need.

@mat200, stupid question, but I just saw your notification and checked it. Note the date. My laptop is showing the correct April 2nd. Are your current notifications showing as being received "tomorrow"?
