DMSS App Not Connecting to Local NVR

I am attempting to log into my NVR via the DMSS app and it's not taking the IP when I am attempting to add it as a local device. Do I need to create an online account to have the app work? I know in older versions this was not required.
 
Devices added to DMSS locally are working for me.
Plus icon > Add device > IP/Domain > Select device type > Enter IP, username, password > Save.

Tried once again recently and even updated to the latest nvr version. Still will not find my nvr ip even when logged into openvpn on my phone. The app works fine on my computer while on openvpn. Anyone else having issues?

Enter the IP manually (button at the bottom of the page).
Possibly your OpenVPN is set to your home LAN range only without allowing mDNS scanning.
